TIPS FOR HOSTING A SAFE PARTY
There are many reports in the media about parties getting out of control resulting in people getting hurt and property being damaged. Your birthday party, grand final celebration or Leaver’s Party should be fun, friendly and safe for those attending. As a host or the parent of one, you are responsible for the safety and welfare of your guests, as well as the fun factor.
Here are some simple ways to make sure your party is a hit.
Before the party
Plan your guest list and site for hosting the event. If you’re going to use Facebook to invite people, make sure invitations are kept private to avoid attracting party crashers.  Double check your settings before sending it out.
Register your party with the local police station – they can provide you with advice and help in organising a safe event.
Let your neighbours know about your party in advance. This will often lessen any concerns they have about parking or noise. Give them your contact details so if they do have any concerns on the night, they can get in touch with you rather than call the police.
When setting up stereos try to make sure the speakers are not facing directly towards a neighbour, and try to keep the volume at an acceptable level.
Catering is important at any party. Ensure you have plenty of water, non-alcoholic drinks and snacks for guests, particularly for those under 18 years of age.
Night of the party
Where possible, try and limit access routes to the property so you know who is coming in and out.
If you’re having the party at home, make sure you close doors to bedrooms and private areas to protect your personal belongings and property.
Keep party goers and drinks inside the building to limit the effect on neighbours.
Make sure your guests get home safely. Organise taxis or ensure there are designated drivers available to transport guests home.
The day after
Make sure you clean up any rubbish in your yard and any neighbouring properties.
Check in with your neighbours and get some feedback on the event, listening to any concerns they may have had.
We always recommend hiring a Security Specialist for a party as all too often things can spiral out of control. Having a professional Security Guard onsite acts as a visible deterrent for potential troublemakers and helps give other attendees a sense of safety. Hawk Eye Protection Guards have extensive experience in coping with party-goers who are walking the fine line between fun and violence. Our Guards act swiftly and discreetly to mitigate potentially volatile situations, making sure your party runs smoothly and incident-free.
